The village of Bazna is situated on a tributary river of the Small Tarnava river, 17 km north-west from the city Medias, and 6 km away from the village Blajel. Bazna consists of 2 main streets, along the local small river.

Bazna was mentioned for the first time in the year 1302. At that time this village was called Bozna. Bazna had developed itself very quick after the German colonists had settled down in the entire Transylvania. The historical documents are mentioning that in 1516 in Bazna lived 82 Innkeepers, 3 widows, 3 shepherds and one teacher.

The existence of methane gas in Bazna was mentioned for the first time in the historical documents in 1672. The governor of Transylvania from that time, Valentin Franck von Frankenstein, wrote in poems about the existence of methane gas in Bazna.
